NEW YORK CITY (WABC) -- New York State Sen. Jessica Ramos officially launched her New York City mayoral campaign Friday morning, becoming the first woman to join the increasingly crowded race.

Jessica Ramos, a progressive state senator from Queens, announced Friday that she will join an increasingly crowded field of candidates preparing to challenge Mayor Eric Adams in next year’s primary.

Democratic state Sen. Jessica Ramos said she is entering the race for New York City mayor.

She becomes the only woman and the second Latino person in the crowded primary field.

After months of mulling a campaign launch, Queens state Sen. Jessica Ramos announced Friday she’s going to challenge Mayor Adams in next year’s Democratic primary election, becoming the first woman to join the increasingly crowded race.

“I love my city, I want my children to love my city, and I want the city to be the best that it can be,” Ramos said in an interview about her nascent 2025 bid. “This campaign is my love letter to the city.”
